VOTE FOR THE NEW GENERATION

March 8 is voting day.

We've seen lots of poster wars going on and sizzling speeches heating up in public. Though I'm not eligible to vote (I am not 21 yet) I feel that I need to express my mind, and also of other youths' with me, regarding to the adults' voting decision.

Dear Voters,

We, the youth of the nation, appeal to you to remember us when you cast your ballot during the voting process. Remember your children and his or her friends. Our future for the next 4 years is in your hands. Your ballot will change the turn of events for your children - it might affect his or her chances to study at a university, to find a job, to apply for loans, to find a home, etc.

Don't cast your vote to a certain party merely because you like the politician's style of thumping the other party; or because he can promise you the way to heaven; or because he has a charming smile; or simply because you don't like the shirt the politician from the other party is wearing.

Don't decide your vote based on whether the party of your choice can give you something. Instead, decide your vote based on what that party can give to YOUR CHILDREN when it becomes a government.

Can the new government ensure safety for your children at the playgrounds? Can the new government bring peace to your child at night when he or she sleeps? Can the new government provide education for youths of all ages, races, backgrounds and beliefs? Can the new government install better institutions for your children's legal, medical and educational needs? Can the new government provide convenience of life for your children? Can the new government help your child becoming a lawyer, doctor or engineer in the future? Can the new government prepare your children to face the challenges of globalisation?

Please think about these before casting your vote. Please vote for the sake of the new generation - your children, your child.

Since we are not eligible to vote, you our guardians are our hope in shaping the administration of Malaysia and protecting her from instability and discordance for us. We are your beneficiaries and you are our trustees. Please keep our future well until we are old enough to vote. By then, we will be together side by side shaping a government that will in return protect and nurture the next new generation - our children, and their children, and so on.

Please remember us when you vote.

Vote for the youth. Vote for the children. Vote for your child.
