CAT CAPER

A comic series I drew while I was still in school. I did a part-time job as a freelance comic illustrator with a children's magazine few years ago. But after publishing 9 episodes of my work (titled "KL Kids Junior"), I decided to retire at the early age of 14 before submitting this one to the publishing house.

"Cat Caper" is about a hungry cat that finds itself a meal in someone's apartment, only to have that person chasing after it with a broom. The cat escapes from the apartment with the help of a cloth-peg and laundry string, but later has to deal with a couple of dogs that roam in the alley. Using its wit, the cat leads the dogs away from the alley and manage to escape. On its way to the other side of the alley, the cat meets with an abandoned child who was crying from hunger. Feeling sorry for the child, the cat offers her its meal. The child hugs the cat as a way of expressing her gratitude for the cat's generousity.

This comic was drawn in tribute to my eldest sister, Big Sis Nur, who fearlessly puts her life and her future at the front line to protect others... including myself. Big Sis Nur may not be everyone's idea of a sister, but she protected me when we were kids; and there were times when she throws herself before me to save my life. Big Sis Nur is often overlooked by others because she lacks of womanly beauty and charms. She has been raised to deal with a steel-hearted world under Mama's wings, which may explain why Big Sis Nur's approach towards life is vastly different from her female peers. She relies heavily on her wits and dark humour to survive in this world. Emotion means nothing to her. People think she's weird. But I know that, deep down underneath Big Sis Nur's cold and mean exterior, lies a princess with a heart of gold.
