When we were small,
We learnt to play ball,
Reciting our ABCs,
And counting our 1,2,3s.
We were told to count,
To get the correct amount,
Two plus two equals to four,
After subtraction you won’t get more.
As we get older,
Our math gets harder,
We had to use the calculator,
Just to add up 100 and over.
The abacus becomes obsolete,
Times table is a boring repeat,
Mental arithmetic is currently in,
Failure to calculate accurately is a sin.
At school we are forced to study,
Algebra, calculus and trigonometry,
And as if that is not enough already,
We are also taught about perpendicular lines, statistics and geometry.
Next, science and philosophy demand,
Good knowledge of math in hand,
What is the density difference between iron and tin?
How many angels are needed to dance on a pin?
How far can our brains go,
With all these math stuff on the flow,
As more technology and theories grow,
Along with human civilization – no one will ever know.
