Islam teaches that everytime a child is born into the world, its birth shall be greeted with love and happiness; for each new soul is a gift from God.
Prophet Isa (Jesus) prophesied that another prophet will be born after his era, and that new prophet shall be the last of all prophets and the one who will carry on God's true message in this world. This prophet was Muhammad S.A.W.
Prophet Muhammad S.A.W was born in 571 A.D. The happiest person who received news of the birth was the prophet's uncle, Amar ibnu Hisyam, who then released his servants and threw grand feasts to celebrate his newborn nephew. But never did he expect that he would someday become the prophet's worst enemy.
It is tragical. A loving uncle who then turns into a lifelong bitter enemy.
Yes, Amar ibnu Hisyam is Abu Jahl. History knows him best as Prophet Muhammad's most bitter enemy who had rebuked and humiliated the prophet numerous times and had even attempted to murder the prophet. But all his attempts were met with failure.
The reason for Abu Jahl's hatred towards Prophet Muhammad S.A.W was that he was about to become an important man in Mecca when the prophet began calling the Quraisy to Islam. He felt the prophet's teachings were a threat to the Bani Quraisy's political hierarchy and business values since Prophet Muhammad's messages included the right of women to be treated equally with men in the society (before Prophet Muhammad's era women were considered as a commodity that can be traded and exploited, and infanticide among female newborns were common since females were seen as a burden to the society), the prohibition of riba' (usury) in business transactions, the rejection of idolatry and ancestral polytheistic worshippings and the need to give charity to the poor and the unfortunate.
Not only did Abu Jahl tormented Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, he also treated the Muslim converts cruelly and mercilessly with every harsh punishment the society came up with. Common punishments included brutal beatings followed by food and water deprivation, but perhaps the most severe punishment was that of being pinned down upon the scorching hot sands of Mecca, left to endure the blistering heat of the sun without relief. Abu Jahl's hostility against the Muslims continued to be cruel and blood-thirsty.
Abu Jahl later died in the Battle of Badr in 624 A.D. Thus was the end of the prophet's lifelong opponent. However, Prophet Muhammad S.A.W never stopped praying to God to bless the soul of his enemy, who was also his uncle.
They say that Abu Jahl is punished by God in Hell for his misdeeds against the prophet and all those that he cruelly treated when he was alive. However, one act by Abu Jahl had released him from continually being kindling to Hell's fires on each Maulidur Rasul. It was his act of receiving the prophet's birth into this world with love and happiness.
There was once a woman in my life who did not greet my birth with such feelings that Abu Jahl had showed to Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. She even drowned me and sent me to Hell when I was a child. When she learnt that I came back to life, she fled to her country and I never saw her again since then. If she is dead, I hope that she takes over Abu Jahl's place as kindling in Hell.

"ALHAMDULILLAH" BY YASIN & TOO PHAT is playing in my mind today.
