A PUNK IN PWTC - DAY 1

Went to Putra World Trade Center yesterday to see the UMNO General Assembly. Mama dragged me there to make sure that I am "exposed to the world of politics".

Amel Hanan, Future Politician. Right... can anything be scarier than that?

This isn't gonna be a good excuse for skipping my Remedies class. I'll just have to tell the lecturer that my car broke down on my way to the campus. On second thought, I've been using that excuse so many times that it's becoming a trend now. I'll think of something else.

How disappointing. This year's assembly started off real slow, unlike the grand festive gatherings we had in the previous years. Maybe the next four days will be better. Give the new PWTC management a chance.

But I still can't help feeling this year's UMNO assembly is missing something. Maybe it's because I've been to the UMNO General Assembly ever since I was a toddler, so any differences in the event would jump right up to my face. Being raised in the city, I guess you could say that PWTC has been my playground.

Where are the wide TV screens? Where are those round, ball-shaped flowers? Where are the important-looking gentlemen in dark sombre coats? Where are the banquets?

Big Sis Nur says the members are having a luncheon today. I guess I'll go there after this morning's class. I don't feel like going to ASP Lee's boring session anyway. He makes Criminal Law a torture, which is sad because it's my favourite subject. I wish someone would torture him.

The sales inside PWTC building seems rather dull. Too much ladies' stuff. In a strange and mysterious way, Zaid Ibrahim's books manage to find their way into the event even though the traitor himself is nowhere to be seen. I had a look at his book - the title is "Saya Pun Melayu". Stefan said some book vendors were detained this morning for peddling certain political books during the first day of the assembly. I suppose the poor vendor I talked to yesterday got detained too.

I think the uniformed policemen that they installed to guard the place should arrest those guys who were smoking inside the building too. If you go to Riverside Cafe, you will definitely get a chance to look at an extreme law-breaking scene: some stupid old punks who pretend to be illiterate (since they ignored the NO SMOKING signs posted everywhere) are chain-smoking inside air-conditioned buildings as if they've never smoked their whole life before. Ash-holes.

And Riverside Cafe is bloody terrible during big events. I wonder why no one ever complains about their service. Get smaller amount of teh tarik in thin paper cups at the normal price? Cekik Darah Cafe should be its appropriate name.

The only thing that cheered me up during the first day of UMNO General Assembly was the Warong Jelapang cafe at the building entrance. The Malay delicacies are great, and the price is reasonable too. The chefs look more interesting than the food. I like watching the old guy at the noodle soup section, he reminds me of that skinny old actor in Anak Mami films.

That guy named Terence from RTM... he's really putting all his efforts in broadcasting the UMNO assembly in tv. Let's all give him an applause. Awesome dude, addictive enthusiasm.

I'd better get back and change to a more formal attire now, or else Mama will scream at me if I go to PWTC in my usual punk self. I hate dressing up. Let's see what PWTC has in store today.

UMNO'S THEME SONG "BERSATU BERSEDIA BERKHIDMAT" is playing in my mind today.
